When business-to-business (B2B) customers qualify for tax exemptions, and you have certificates with the details, you can add exemption certificates to Vertex O Series so the Vertex for Shopify connector applies the exemption to the appropriate orders.

When you add the certificate, use the company identifier from your Shopify as the customer code in Vertex O Series.

A company's tax-exempt status takes precedence over an individual customer's status. When a company qualifies for a tax exemption, the exemption applies to all customers placing orders within that company. When only a customer qualifies for a tax exemption, the exemption applies only to that customer’s orders.

Copy the company details

To copy the company details for the customer tax exemption, follow these steps:

1. In your Shopify admin, select Customers > Companies.
2. Click the company that you want to update.
3. In the company details section, click the ellipsis (...) icon, and then click Edit company details.
4. Copy the value in the Company ID field and use it as the customer code in the exemption certificate.
