Learn about the countries and regions supported in this service.
The service supports countries and regions in the following categories:
- Indirect tax calculations—Vertex O Series must have tax rules available for supported countries.
- Direct and marketplace transactions—Supported countries can differ depending on whether a sale involves two-party or three-party liability.
- Vertex Invoice IQ—Generate tax-compliant digital invoices for supported countries and regions. For more information, see Supported Invoices.
- Vertex Validator—Validate tax identification numbers for business-to-business (B2B) transactions. For more information, see Supported Validation Types.
Indirect tax calculations
The service supports all countries and regions for indirect tax calculation.
The service calculates taxes based on the tax rules and rates configured in Vertex O Series. The tax rules in O Series determine which countries and regions are available for tax calculation.
The service supports tax calculation for physical and digital goods.
Direct and marketplace transactions
The tax jurisdictions supported by the service can be divided into the following groups:
- Two-party sales: A two-party sale involves two participants who can be liable for tax: the seller and the buyer. The service determines whether the seller or buyer is liable. You can modify some of this behavior through configuration settings.
- Three-party sales: A three-party sale involves three participants who can be liable for tax: the seller, buyer, and marketplace. The service supports three-party sales where applicable, such as in the European Union (EU).

Considerations
Note the following considerations:
- The European Union (EU) includes the Canary Islands.
- Norwegian legislation does not permit marketplace (three-party) business-to-business (B2B) transactions for physical goods, so marketplaces are not supported.
