Read definitions for common terms. These definitions are also displayed as mouseover text in the documentation.
| Term | Description |

| Vertex for Marketplaces | The name of this product. Generally referred to as "the service" in the documentation when not named directly. |
| Seller | These are merchants who participate in e-commerce. |
| Seller Code | The code that identifies the seller that is present in the seller_code field. This is used to specify this seller in inbound transaction requests. |
| Buyer | The Seller's customers. Parties who purchase goods. These are the customers of the merchants' ecommerce stores or the marketplace itself. |
| Transaction Key | A unique ID that is generated by the Store Transaction request and used to later identify transactions. |
| Calculate Tax | The Calculate Tax request returns tax results, without creating a record in the service's Transaction database. |
| Store Transaction | The Store Transaction request that is used to store transaction details. |
| Confirm Transaction | The Confirm Transaction request used to confirm transactions. |
| Liability Determination | The name for the component and process that determines which party is liable. |
| Product Class | The classification of the product. See Product Classes. |
| Vertex Invoice IQ | The name of the invoicing component. |
| Vertex Validator | The name of the component that validates Tax IDs. |
| Tax Engine | The component that calculates tax rates. |
| Tax ID | The name of the number that sellers and buyers use to identify themselves in B2B transactions. For example, a VAT number. |
| Product Tax Code | A code that is defined in Vertex O Series (Cloud) and can be passed (along with a Product Tax Class) in requests to trigger a specific taxability driver. |
| Product Tax Class | A class that is defined in Vertex O Series (Cloud) and can be passed (along with a Product Tax Code) in requests to trigger a specific taxability driver. |
| Vertex O Series (Cloud) | Vertex O Series (Cloud) is the product that Vertex for Marketplaces uses for tax rates. |
